Experience the Tradition: Grand Rapids Applebutter Fest
Held annually on the second Sunday in October, the historic village of Grand Rapids, Ohio, transforms for the legendary Applebutter Fest. Drawing over 30,000 visitors, this beloved Northwest Ohio staple has been running strong since 1977. Organized by the Historical Society of Grand Rapids Ohio alongside community partners, the festival features authentic pioneer demonstrations, massive copper kettles brewing fresh apple butter over open log fires, live musical entertainment, and hundreds of juried artisan craft booths.
Right in the heart of the action, the Toledo, Lake Erie & Western Railway and Museum (TLE&W) plays a vital role in connecting festival-goers to the vibrant history of the region. As visitors explore the village shops, historical re-enactments, and canal-era charm, our museum grounds serve as a central hub for transit, exhibits, and community engagement.
What’s New at the TLE&W Grounds
- America 250 Commemoration: Catch a ride on our passenger motorcars, specially painted and styled to mark America’s semi-quincentennial milestone.
- Curated 3rd Street Triangle Vendors: Explore a hand-picked roster of food and craft vendors stationed right on our museum grounds.
- Interactive QR Code Trail: Scan the new right-of-way signage along our tracks to pull up real-time event schedules, maps, and museum history directly on your mobile device.
- Youth Maintenance-of-Way Gang: Stop by our information tent to learn how youth ages 14–20 are learning heavy restoration and mechanical trades hands-on through our Clover Leaf Crew program.
