At a Glance: As the Toledo, Lake Erie & Western Railway and Museum renovates to reopen, it seeks donations of historical railroad documents, artifacts, memorabilia, and rolling stock. Emphasis on items from regional lines like the Clover Leaf, Nickel Plate, and Wabash. Donations may be tax-deductible; loans and purchases considered. Contact us via our form.
As the Toledo, Lake Erie & Western Railway and Museum (TLE&W) moves forward with major renovations and prepares to reopen our doors, we are actively seeking new historical railroad assets to share with the public.
We invite individuals, families, collectors, and organizations to consider donating letters, documents, lanterns, tools, and other memorabilia — as well as larger artifacts, engines, rail cars, and rolling stock that help tell the story of railroading in Northwest Ohio and the broader region. Your contribution will help us expand the collection visitors experience when we reopen — placing both long-preserved pieces and newly acquired items on public display for education and enjoyment.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome a wide range of historical railroad material, including:
- Documents & Photos: Letters, timetables, maps, blueprints, employee records, and vintage photographs (digital collections are also accepted)
- Artifacts & Equipment: Lanterns, tools, signals, uniforms, and related railroad equipment
- Memorabilia: Signs, tickets, posters, and other ephemera
- Larger Items: Rolling stock parts, signage, or structures (subject to space and feasibility)
- Rolling Stock: Locomotives, rail cars, and other equipment that organizations or private owners wish to place in a permanent home
We place special emphasis on items with clear provenance and those connected to lines that shaped our region — particularly the Toledo, St. Louis and Western Railroad (the Clover Leaf), later Nickel Plate Road and Norfolk & Western, as well as the Wabash and local short lines serving Toledo, Maumee, and surrounding communities.
Donation or Sale
TLE&W is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations of historical assets may qualify for a tax deduction (please consult your tax advisor). We also evaluate select purchases based on historical significance and condition.
We are also interested in artifacts on loan from personal collections. Further discussion can help ensure the items offered align with our collecting interests and museum goals.
