New Interpretive Signage Enhances Our Outdoor Collection
We are pleased to announce the installation of new descriptive signage throughout our Outdoor Collection. This initiative will provide visitors with immediate access to key information about many of the historic railcars and locomotives on display at the museum.

Over the coming weeks, signs will be placed near each piece of equipment—or in the most convenient viewing location—offering basic details such as the piece’s identity, builder, type, and classification. Each sign also features a QR code that visitors can scan with their mobile device to be taken directly to the corresponding page on our website. There, they will find a complete profile including the equipment’s history, technical specifications, and additional background information.
The first of these signs has been installed near our Ann Arbor Railroad #1, a 1941 44-ton diesel-electric switcher built by Whitcomb Locomotive Works.
This project represents another important step in our ongoing efforts to improve the visitor experience through better interpretation, increased interaction, and enhanced educational opportunities. We look forward to completing the signage for the remainder of the collection and invite you to explore these new resources during your next visit.
